CLASSIC CHILI BOWL
An interesting blend of herbs and spices creates this classic chili.
Chili Ingredients:
1 1/2 pounds lean ground beef
2 medium (1 cup) onions, chopped
1 small (1/2 cup) green bell pepper, chopped
1 rib (1/2 cup) celery, chopped
1 teaspoon finely chopped fresh garlic
2 (14.5-ounce) cans diced tomatoes, undrained
2 (15-ounce) cans kidney beans, undrained
1 (8-ounce) can tomato sauce
1 to 2 tablespoons chili powder
1 1/2 teaspoons ground cumin
1 teaspoon salt
1/4 teaspoon pepper
1/4 teaspoon ground red pepper
Garnish Ingredients:
Cheddar Cheese, sliced, cut diagonally
1. Cook ground beef, onions, green pepper, celery and garlic in 5-quart saucepan
over medium-high heat, stirring occasionally, until meat is browned (10 to
12 minutes). Drain off fat.
2. Stir in all remaining ingredients except cheese. Continue cooking until
mixture comes to a full boil (5 to 8 minutes). Reduce heat to low. Cook, stirring
occasionally, until flavors are blended (30 to 40 minutes). Top each serving
with cheese triangles.
Makes 6 (1 1/3-cup) servings
